Calculation of the grade for students from high school
To calculate your university entrance exam (PAU) score, several factors are considered. First, your high school GPA. Second, the results you obtained on the university entrance exam. If you are applying to university from a higher-level vocational training program, your vocational training transcript will be taken into account.
Remember that the university entrance exam (PAU) has two phases : general and specific. Students coming from high school (Bachillerato) must complete the general phase and can choose to take the specific phase. Students coming from vocational training (FP) only need to complete the specific phase.
The general phase consists of:
- Spanish Language and Literature.
- Foreign language: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese.
- Contemporary History of Spain or History of Philosophy.
- Modality Trunk.
The core curriculum will depend on the career path you wish to pursue. The following options are available:
- Science and Engineering: Mathematics II.
- Social and Legal Sciences: Applied mathematics to social sciences.
- Humanities: Latin.
- Fine Arts: Artistic drawing.
- General Baccalaureate: General sciences.
In the specific phase , you can choose subjects related to the degree you want to pursue at university. You must choose subjects that have a weighting of 0,2 (green column) in this table . You can choose between 0 and 4 subjects. However, keep in mind that the university will only use the two highest grades when calculating your admission score.
Calculation of the grade for students from high school
For students coming from high school, the formula to calculate your PAU admission grade (from 5 to 14 points) is as follows:
Admission grade = 0,6*CFB + 0,4*EvAU + 0,2*M1 + 0,2*M2
- SFBC: final high school grade.
- PAU: the average grade of the four subjects in the general phase.
- M1: the best grade of the specific phase.
- M2: the second best grade in the specific phase.
You can also use the modality core subject as M1 or M2. Of course, you will only be able to use subjects in which you have obtained at least a 5 on the exam.
Calculation of the grade for students from higher degree FP
For students coming from higher-level vocational training , the following formula is used:
Admission grade = NFP + 0,2*M1 + 0,2*M2
- NFP: vocational training record note
- M1: the best grade of the specific phase.
- M2: the second best grade in the specific phase.
For M1 and M2, only subjects in which at least a 5 was obtained in the exam will be taken into account.

Hello, I took the EBAU after finishing high school, and I did the core subjects, including English. I didn't go to university and started a vocational training program. This year I decided to take the PAU again, but with the vocational training program, I studied business design. My question is, will my English grade count now?
Hello, Nikoll:
We don't think so, as it has already expired. However, since this aspect is being modified, I recommend you contact the university's admissions department. We're sorry we can't help you.
A greeting.
Hello, I completed a higher education degree. In 2023, I took the EVAU and got an 8 in math. In 2025, I want to get into university and I'm going to take physics to improve my grade. Are those math tests counted toward my final grade?
Hello, Oliver:
The grades for the specific phase of the EvAU are valid for two academic years, so if you took it in 2023, your Mathematics grade would no longer be valid for admission to the next academic year.
A greeting.
Hello! If I want to enter university from a higher degree and I want to take the EVAU, will English be weighted at 0.2 as an optional subject or, since it is a core subject, would I have to take all the core subjects when I take the exam?
Hello, Nadia:
If the weighting table for the degree you want to enter indicates that it has a weight of 0,2 in the "additional foreign language" column, English can be chosen as an optional subject when it has not been chosen as a core subject. Therefore, for students who want to access university from a higher degree and do not take the general phase, it is an eligible subject like any other.
All the best
